FAQ's

  • Where do you build?

    We can build almost anywhere!

Typically, our sites are Rural or Semi-Rural given the character of the homes themselves. We have built our homes all over the world.

  • How much does West Coast Log Home cost?

All of our homes are entirely bespoke and therefore so is our pricing.

We cater for your budget more accurately and consider each development plot carefully when designing every home to ensure the most resourceful and desirable finished product possible.

Typically prices start at £250,000 however we find the best way to calculate an initial budget would be per Square Foot.

Typically we can build from £160/SqFt - £225/SqFt but there are many variables which will effect this:

    • Site location

    • Site restrictions

    • Design Complexity

    • Construction Method

    • Ground Conditions

    • Specification

    • Exchange rates

    • Timescales

    • Build Package (Supply only, Turnkey etc)

  • Why don't you have a Plan Book?

We do not use Plan Books or have various designs to choose from as everything we do is entirely bespoke.

This enables us to design higher quality homes which are more efficient, suited to the site with a higher success rate in planning stages.

It also means if you choose West Coast Log Homes to make your dreams a reality, your home will remain unique to you and your family for generations to come and the value will positively reflect this too!

  • I don't have plans or know exactly what I want, can you help?

Yes, of Course. We have an excellent design team and it’s their job to help you portray your design into a working reality.

We provide architectural design & planning services to 90% of our clients.

If you have plans already, we can build to specification using other commissioned designs.

  • Are your homes mortgageable?

Yes, we have specialist lenders whom we work closely with offering insentivised rates due to the sustainable nature of our homes

  • I like timber buildings, but worry about fire risk?

A completely natural concern and one of our popular questions

The homes we build are incredibly strong and demonstrated by a recent study we had commissioned by a leading structural engineering firm; our homes outperform steel structures when subject to the same fire scenario.

Fire retardance is measured by the point of failure, our homes more than double the expected UK & EU expectations and unlike our competitors, we provide bespoke engineering and Charring calculations with every home we build.

In certain areas, we also install fire suppression or misting systems by local authority or client request.

  • How long do they take to build?

We have built smaller home in less than 8 months however typically between 12-18 months is usual

  • Do I need planning permission?

Yes, all our homes will need full planning permission.

Our homes are built on foundations as a traditional home would be and therefore are not deemed moveable structures.

Log Homes are often mistake with log cabins or lodges that are mostly moveable structures.

  • How long will a West Coast Log Home last?

In Europe, Architect’s design homes to last 125 years. We do the same however there is no reason our homes cannot last much longer.

Some of the oldest homes in the world are centuries old and were built in the same way using the same materials that we use.

Our grade of raw material (Western Red Cedar) is the finest the world has to offer and the logs grow very slow, as a result, they are very dense, strong and hard wearing to the elements.
